The TenWise team has over 25 years of experience in performing research for the food, pharma and personal care industry.
Wynand Alkema PhD did a post-doc in microbial bioinformatics Karolinksa Institute (Sweden) after his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RuG). He continued his career in the Netherlands, as head of bioinformatics for drug discovery at Organon and later at Merck. In 2011 he started working at NIZO and held several roles including Group Leader Fermentation and Expertise Leaders Bio-Informatics. He set up the GENOBOX consortium in 2013. Next to this he holds a position as Professor of Data Science at Hanze University of Applied Sciences for 2 days in the week. An overviews of his publications can be found on here on Google Scholar.
Wynand started TenWise in 2014, is co-owner and Chief Scientific Officer.

Nils Hijlkema MSc has a background Industrial Engineering and Management and started his career in grants consultancy at Ernst & Young in supporting companies in its innovations. In 2009 he started working for NIZO in which he created new collaborations with start-ups and multinationals in the personal care, probiotics and pharma sectors. His experience is in advising on set-ups for and funding (Eurostars, H2020, Interreg) of in vitro screenings, clinical trials and upscaled productions of bacterial strains and compounds.

Niels van Beuningen has a background in Psychology and Technology and Data Science at the Eindhoven University of Technology. During his studies, he has gained experience in programming using different methods (Optimization, API’s, OOP, Machine Learning), and languages (Python, Java, html, R). He is a dedicated Artificial Intelligence enthusiast and aims to continue the rapid expansion of his experience in the field.Niels is our Python Programmer. Sinne Alkema has a background in Medical Biology and Epigenomics at the Radboud University. She has a special interest in studying biology on a molecular and cellular level. This includes looking at gene sets and what they can tell us in the context of disease. She also has experience in the programming languages R and Python and hopes to further extend her skills in this.
